My Grandma Johnson

One year ago today my Grandma Johnson passed away. I was reading the “Velveteen Rabbit” a couple of nights ago and came across a passage that reminded me of her:

(The Skin Horse is explaining to the Rabbit what it means to be Real.)
“When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real. It doesn’t happen all at once. You become. It takes a long time. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off. . . You get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

My Grandma was so loved and was the closest thing to Charity that I have ever seen. (If you ever read the scriptures about Charity you could just replace the word "charity" with her name.) She had had cancer and a disease called ataxia, so by the time she passed away she had lost her hair (although it had grown back by that time) and was confined to a wheelchair. Because of the Ataxia she was a little “loose in the joints” and she couldn’t do her makeup or hair as well as in the past. But, she was so Real. She was a beautiful person on the outside and even more beautiful on the inside! She is such a great example to me and gives me the motivation to be a better person.

A Job Offer!

Yesterday Aaron got a job offer from the IBI Group in Salt Lake City. We are so excited! When I told Carly that Daddy got a job the first thing she asked was, "Can we have a baby now?". We're still waiting to hear back from a couple other places, but hopefully we'll know in the next week what our plans are for the coming year!! YAY!!!!

A Charitable Donation

I asked Carly to go through a box of toys and organize them and let me know if there were any that she would like to give to kids who don't have very many toys. We found some interesting things in the box. This is one of the donations (among others):

She was such a sweet heart about it and was so happy to give away toys to other kids. It was a great way to de-junk and let the girls help while I did some cleaning.

A Conversation with Ellie:

One day while trying to put on her shoes she tells me, "Lonson Blonson give these shoes to me."

I interpret, "Grandpa Johnson gave you those shoes?"

Ellie clarifies, "No! Lonson Blonson give them to me."

Finally I get it, "President Monson?"

Ellie, "Uh Huh, Lonson Blonson give them to me at the library at the church. Lonson Blonson so nice to me!"

My Sisters & Aaron's Job Prospects

My Sisters

My Sister’s and I had a Girl’s Weekend in Boise the last weekend in March.
We Shopped ‘Til We Dropped (10 hours straight on Saturday…way too long!)

Aaron's Job Prospects

Last week Aaron had two different companies fly him to their offices (Aspen, CO and SLC) for 2nd interviews – we’ll let you know more when we know more! On his way to Aspen (for Design Workshop), the flight was not able to land because of weather conditions so they landed at the nearest airport (about a 3 hour drive away – 6 hrs because of weather). The guy sitting next to him on the flight offered him a ride to Aspen. This same man had also worked with Design Workshop on several projects and was able to give him lots of information and advice about the company and the Aspen area. He also happened to be the Land Planner on the site that Aaron is studying for his Master’s Thesis! Is Someone watching out for us or what!?

Easter and Other Random Pictures

Easter Egg Hunt

At our stake primary activity Carly found a bunch of plastic eggs filled with candy, but another little girl in our ward only found two, so we encouraged Carly to share an egg with her. I was so proud when Carly shared an egg and was praising her when she said to me: “There wasn’t anything in that egg.”

Ellie looks warily at the Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny was actually one of Aaron’s old mission companions. Ellie obviously didn’t recognize him in the costume

Genius Idea
The girls were waiting impatiently for their dyed eggs to dry. Carly suddenly ran out of the kitchen saying “I have an idea” She came back carrying this fan from her bedroom.

We had an Easter dinner with some friends - we are so grateful to have such great friends here while we are living away from family.

Kool-Aid Play Dough

(The Kool-Aid gives it color and a great smell too.)
1 cup water
1 Tbsp oil
1 cup flour
½ cup salt
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 pkg (.13 oz) of Kool-Aid

Pour water and oil in sauce pan and bring to boil over high heat. Mix dry ingredients and add to water. Take off of heat and mix well. Remove from pan and knead dough until you get a smooth texture.

Fridge Quotes II

March 12, 2008
We are riding in the car, listening to classical music…
Mommy says, “I love this music, it makes me feel relaxed and feel good.”
Carly’s reply, “Makes me feel tired.”

March 14, 2008
Aaron was putting Ellie to bed and couldn’t find her binky.
Daddy: “It’s lost Ellie”
Ellie: “Say prayer. Heavenly Father find it for me… [praying] Father, binky find for me. Jesus Christ, Amen.”
(Of course they found one.)
